CAM programme aims to help more advanced machine tool users

PLM (product lifecycle management) software developer UGS has launched a ‘Delivering Machine Tool Value’ programme, based on its the NX CAM Express.

UGS says it aims to help manufacturers derive more value from their machine tools by increasing utilisation and optimisation for the newer technical features. The programme provides application-specific CAM (computer aided manufacturing) software for SMEs with new machine tools, based on UGS’ NC programming components of its Velocity Series software suite. UGS has been working alongside machine tool vendors to provide appropriate CAM to support the full capabilities of the latest machines – and it is this collaboration that has led to the new programme. Tom Glisczinski, president of UGS partner Applied CIM, says that while investments in advanced machine tool technology typically generate fast return on investment (ROI), they need effective CAM for this to work optimally. “Our machine tool customers purchase the latest technology in machine tools in order to gain the efficiencies that drive bottom line profits,” says Glisczinski. “These efficiencies are realised by process optimisation, NC programming and knowledgeable vendor support. We view NX CAM Express as the most capable system offering for our customers to complete their machine tool investments.” For example, in the mould and die industry, NX CAM Express can program and optimise high speed roughing, re-roughing and finishing work on newer machines. Similarly, in production machining, multi-function turning centres and mill-turns dramatically reduce cycle times – and NX CAM Express provides the synchronisation and simulation they need.
