CCEP announce investment in Morpeth

Manufacturing in North East England has received a boost as Coca-Cola European Partners (CCEP) announced a £14 million investment into its plant in Morpeth near Newcastle.

The site is the home of Schweppes Abbey Well spring water, which is bottled directly from the source thanks to an underground aquifer on site.

The investment is being spent on a new high-speed automated water-processing and production line. This new line will more than double current output at the site from 18,200 to 50,000 bottles per hour, resulting, say CCEP, in an extra four million cases of water per year.

Jane Buckley, operations director for CCEP in Morpeth, said: “At CCEP we are dedicated to supporting local manufacturing across the country and this investment in new equipment and production technology is an exciting milestone for our Morpeth operations.”

Ian Lavery, MP for Wansbeck, the constituency that includes Morpeth, attended the announcement, and added: “It was fantastic to see the results of investment in the Morpeth site. Our community, and indeed the country, needs to see more high-quality jobs in manufacturing like those in Morpeth. I’m sure this site has a bright future supporting employment in Wansbeck.”
