Akzonobel UK, the manufacturers of Dulux, Cuprinol, Hammerite and Polycell brands, has signed up to a pallet pooling service for delivering its products to DIY centres and retail outlets in the UK to ensure that its Dulux paints are consistently distributed on high-quality pallets across the country. The group, headquartered in Slough, produces paint in 26 countries on four continents: Europe, North America, Latin America and Asia. With several customers increasing quality control checks on incoming pallets, AkzoNobel is using IPP Logipal for a simple one-way nationwide operation that makes weekly deliveries to AkzoNobel's Slough manufacturing unit and a depot in Stowmarket, Cambridgeshire. Over 150,000 pallets trips are made each year to major DIY retailers, such as B&Q and Focus, as well as the supermarket chain, Tesco. Once utilised, pallet collections are arranged by IPP, with inspections carried out matched to KPI (key performance indicator) criteria, ensuring customers receive consistently high-quality pallets. AkzoNobel's UK logistics manager David Macrae said: "To increase the efficiency of our supply chain we required a pallet solution provider with a high regard for quality that will work proactively with AkzoNobel manufacturing sites and our third party logistics provider, TDG, to deliver continuous improvement in our operations.
