EEF offers seminars to ease fit note introduction

1 min read

Today (6 April) marks the introduction of the 'fit note', the statement of fitness for work which replaces the sick note, and manufacturers' organisation EEF is holding a series of seminars to help employers understand their role within the new system.

Through its chief medical adviser, Professor Sayeed Khan (pictured), EEF has been at the forefront of developing the fit note system, representing employers in government consultations and in training GPs. The seminars, it says, will help employers adjust to the new system and improve their sickness absence management. Commenting, Professor Khan, said: "After more than 60 years of using the old sick note, the new fit note is the right tool for modern medicine and a modern society. To improve sickness absence management we have to change the culture away from what people can't do to what they can do. The new system is a welcome change and, for those companies that embrace it, it will bring significant business benefits." The two-hour seminars are designed for managers in health and safety, HR and general line managers. Dates and locations are: * 16 April, Warrington * 29 April, Birmingham (two sessions) * 10 May, Oakham * 11 May, St Asaph, Clwyd * 12 May, Bridgend * 17 May, Leeds * 18 May, Sheffield * 19 May, Hook, Hants Full details and booking can be made at www.eef.org.uk.
