Ferranti gets goods receiving flying with integrated barcode solution

Aerospace power, controls and avionic products manufacturer Ferranti Technologies says it has successfully integrated InforBarcode from Bridgelogix with Infor ERP Baan.

Ferranti IT manager Ian Gowen says it's all about streamlining production and enhancing the efficiency of stock deliveries. Essentially, Bridgelogix's solution speed up Ferranti's goods receiving by adding automation and labelling, while specifically getting away from the classic multi-screen transaction processes, which invariably limit booking in rates. Gowen says that by integrating that system with ERP Baan IVc4, the system now places received goods into available inventory on the day of delivery – requiring fewer operators. "For instance, urgent parts can now be allocated to production at the point of receipt, instead of putting them into storage for picking later – avoiding the need for double handling. Ultimately we can satisfy our manufacturing requirements by completing finished products on time and with much less effort." Configurable menus also allow Ferranti to incorporate existing working practices and terminology into the receiving and inventory process, enabling operators to associate new tasks to operations previously learned on the existing ERP Baan system.
