Award-winning frozen foods manufacturer KK Fine Foods reports profits up 54% and product waste down 15% in the three years following its ERP implementation.

Recently shortlisted for a Best of British manufacturing IT Award for Best ROI from IT in Manufacturing and Business Management, the company went for a Ross Systems ERP solution. Based in North Wales, KK Fine Foods produces more than 250 recipes for customers including TGI Friday, Pizza Hut, Iceland, Marriott and Whitbread across the UK and Europe. Says KK Fine Foods chairman Graham Jackson: “We really have gone from strength to strength since implementing the solution from Ross. [It] underpins our entire organisation from finance and sales order processing to production and distribution. We’ve been able to minimise errors in production and streamline production planning as well as achieve more effective management of our cold storage facility.” He explains that key advantages are the scale of integration and real-time management information that together allowed the company to optimise throughput, streamline the business and monitor product profitability in a way that it simply couldn’t before. And he also cites the executive level view of the entire business and manufacturing processes, which enables managers to make decisions based on current and accurate information. As well as live management reports, the system also provides real-time stock status reports, supplying information by product, customer, ingredient, location and history. This feature, he says, helped KK Fine Foods achieve Grade A Food Safety Traceability Accreditation from the FSA. Says Jackson: “KK Fine Foods now has a completely accurate demand forecasting system … and we have total control and visibility of all materials and products throughout the manufacturing process. We are continuing to experience growth on a massive scale, to the point that we’re doubling our production capacity. We have plans to increase our revenue by 200% over the next five years.” KK Fine Foods was awarded the Welsh Medium Sized Business of the Year Award in 2004 and has recently been awarded funding worth over £4 million from the Welsh Assembly in recognition of its business success and to extend and double the capacity of its existing operation.
