Manufacturing picks ups safety honours

Around 130 businesses in the manufacturing and engineering services industries were honoured at this year’s Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents Occupational Health and Safety Awards.

The winner of the Manufacturing Sector was Toyota Motor Manufacturing UK, Burnaston, Derby (pictured), with Springfields Fuels, Preston, Lancashire, and Marshalls West Lane Works Landscape Division, Halifax, West Yorkshire, highly commended. National Semiconductor UK, Greenock, Scotland, and Moores Furniture Group, Wetherby, West Yorkshire, were commended. National Semiconductor was also commended in the RoSPA International Dilmun Environmental Award, sponsored by Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company of Bahrain. Businesses in the sectors also picked up one order of distinction, 11 president's awards, 32 gold medals, 57 gold awards, 17 silver, three bronze and two merit awards. Tom Mullarkey, RoSPA Chief Executive, said: “Organisations and businesses which not only proclaim the importance of health and safety, but actually deliver consistent standards of health and safety risk management deserve full recognition.”
