Manufacturers wanting to manage their engineering documents, CAD drawings and product lifecycles, and specifically link those to business processes, are being offered an ‘out of the box’ content management system by engineering software firm McLaren. The firm says its Enterprise Engineer lets you implement a user-configurable system with business rules that can respond to internal and external change requirements. It means engineering development can be more in touch with departments like, manufacturing, sales, estimating and quoting – sharing information across the enterprise. The development has been backed by content management and e-business systems developer Documentum. Says Documentum president and CEO Dave DeWalt: “[The system] will enable businesses to maximise the value of engineering content and leverage the rich content management functionality of the Documentum 5 platform, while minimising the cost of re-work and mitigating the risk and cost of non-compliance.” Monica Schnitger, senior vice president at analyst Daratech, says: “Our research across the manufacturing sector has shown that users are demanding out-of-the-box content management applications… McLaren is currently the fastest growing vendor of content management applications for manufacturing industry. The company is extending its leadership with the introduction of McLaren Enterprise Engineer.”
