Portsmouth Aviation is reported to be one of the first manufacturers in the world to join the new IFS Applications 8 ERP 'early adopter' programme.

The company, which has been running on IFS ERP since 2005, says it chose to upgrade to the latest version of IFS Applications in a bid to help streamline engineering and manufacturing operations and improve business agility. James Greaves, systems manager at Portsmouth Aviation, explains that the firm has been working with IFS R&D as part of a programme to ensure that the new release meets required standards. Currently, the company uses IFS Applications for document management, HR, finance and e-invoicing, maintenance, customer management and product data management. Greaves says that moving up to IFS Applications will bring additional access to the new flexible IFS Enterprise Explorer (IEE) user interface. "Everyone at the company logs into IFS Applications first thing in the morning, and uses it throughout the day, so a clear and easy-to-use interface is vital," states Greaves. "We've always found IFS Applications very usable, but improvements in IFS Applications 8, such as the new customisable data fields, will no doubt enhance our productivity further – among other benefits," he continues. IFS states that the new IEE interface is based on usability research, and offers intuitive features for filtering, searching and navigating data to suit individual roles and competencies. "The application's component-based architecture has allowed us to tailor the system to suit our needs as we have evolved and grown," comments Greaves. "It's clear that we'll be able to continue doing this with IFS Applications 8, and keep streamlining our business processes – reducing operational costs, and improving profitability."
