SME manufacturers turning to new ERP for lean business improvements

An increasing number of SME manufacturers are responding to market pressures by harnessing modern ERP and associated systems to radically changing the way they operate their business.

So says Howard Joseph, sales director of McGuffie Brunton, which is sponsoring the Innovation category at the 2006 British Factory Awards (BFA) which promote and reward manufacturing excellence. “As a sponsor of the Innovation Award, I would be surprised if more companies were not to enter this category for the 2007 Awards,” says Howard. “ERP systems like Syspro 6.0 have a high degree of flexibility, functionality and system integration that enable firms not only to control and manage their businesses, but to make dynamic changes that will further improve factory operations and competitiveness.” He cites military security vehicles builder Allen-Vanguard, which McGuffie is helping to restructure its manufacturing operations, and aerospace supplier Neomet, which is installing Syspro to underpin its lean business initiative. Says Howard: “Customers are getting bolder in their requirements because they know that with systems like Syspro they will be supported in implementing their strategies. The latest ERP systems geared for SMEs now put customers in a position whereby they can make the type of changes to their business that they have been unable to do in the past.”
