Exel Computer Systems has established an office in Shanghai, China, at the Guang Dong Development Bank building, to sell its Linux and Windows-based efacs manufacturing ERP business system. The move is as a response to the meteoric growth and liberalization of that country and its growing demand for IT. Exel is looking at Chinese firms with from 20 to 1,000 employees – similar to its core UK scope. Efacs has seen considerable development of late, including conversion to the Java platform – and Exel has been moving up the business stakes, most recently being selected for the Polestar print group, with 5,500 employees across 25 sites in the UK, Spain and Hungary. Moving into China is a brave move, demonstrating founder and CEO Dr John Ellis determination not only to stay on top of manufacturing management IT technologically, for which he is known, but also commercially and geographically. Initially, efacs in China will be sold and supported on the Linux operating system with IBM DB2 database, or Microsoft Windows 2003 Server with SQL Server.
