OBE for Gripple inventor

Gripple Ltd chairman, Hugh Facey, has been named in the Queen’s latest honours list for services to manufacturing, innovation, exports and employee ownership.

Facey invented and launched the Gripple wire joiner in 1989 and built the entirely employee-owned Sheffield-based company, which turned over £67m last year alone.

Multi-national Gripple, which counts five Queen’s Awards amongst its accolades, has more than 4,000 customers, 650 employees and has sold 600m wire joiners globally.

In response to the honours mention, Facey recorded a message of thanks to his employees: “This is incredible news and a great honour. I have been thinking about what OBE means personally, as well as officially. I concluded that I received it because of you - our brilliant employees – to thank you for what you do day-in day-out to create wonderful companies. Pride may be a sin but you make me proud of what you do and what you will continue to do.”
