Cambridge is the benchmark site for lean manufacturing within the German owned Carl Zeiss Microscopy group and won a hat trick of Best Factory Awards in 2011.
The site, which makes cutting edge electron microscopes, has from the outset insisted lean principles are for everybody in the organisation not just on the production line. They are now rolled out across the entire plant.
