Electrical and electronics giant Legrand reckons it will save time and money all the way from conceptual design to production, through concurrent working across teams and international sites, all by using a PLM (product lifecycle management) system.
The firm has gone for a MatrixOne PLM system, which is being deployed throughout the group's international product development teams to access, organise and share new product information in real time.
"The MatrixOne platform saves us an enormous amount of time at the design and concept stages not only because of the ease of use, but thanks to reliable distribution of product data to our global teams," says Paul Chanal, Legrand PDM project manager. "The fact that everyone has access to the most recent version makes file management much less time-consuming and labour-intensive.
"Further, by integrating our mechanical and electronic CAD solutions, we can synchronise product design across engineering disciplines. The whole product development process thereby becomes more efficient and less costly and we reduce our time-to-market. That is the real added value of the solution.
"[It] is extremely user-friendly, with a much more natural man/machine interface than our previous solution... We are now able to share data via our intranet across all sites of the group using a standard IT architecture."
