Modelling halves design cycle costs

German egg handling machine builder Bergmeier Maschinenbau reckons it's found a better, quicker and much cheaper way to design its complex products.

It's using CoCreate's OneSpace Designer Modelling. Says CEO Gerd Bergmeier: "In the past, we worked with 2D drawings, but many of our customers can't read 2D easily. So, we bought parametric 3D CAD." But that led to new hardware, more training and, even with skilled users, a requirement to get all design changes documented before running to final design. "It wasn't compatible with my complex products, nor did it offer the flexibility I need," says Bergmeier. Hence OneSpace Designer Modelling: "Within just three days, I was fully productive… We were in the midst of a complex project, but with the new system online we finished it on-time. Product development cycles and costs dropped by 50%." He cites several benefits of dynamic modelling over history-based systems. Key are: the ability to make changes late in the design process; very rapid 3D data loading (four seconds instead of four minutes); and much lower data volumes – 6Mb in Designer Modelling, compared to 120Mb.
