The Energy Event – the exhibition and conference dedicated to energy procurement, management and efficiency – will welcome more than 6,000 visitors and 200 exhibitors when it returns to the NEC, Birmingham in its new halls 3 and 3A on 16-17 September, as Ian Vallely reports.
Too many factories are failing to manage energy usage effectively, which is bad for both their bottom line and for the planet.
Well specified lighting and heating can save you thousands and help protect our fragile environment. But where do you go for help in reining back those energy costs and reducing harmful emissions?
One answer is the Energy Event which takes place on 16-17 September 2014 at the NEC, Birmingham.
Whether you're a seasoned veteran of energy management or new to it, it is useful to review the technology options available and energy saving techniques at hand, and the Energy Event will give you an opportunity to do just that.
The organiser promises a host of features and benefits including free CPD-accredited seminars and discussions with more than 70 expert speakers. There are also the usual networking opportunities as well as more than 160 exhibitors to enable you to find new products and technologies that will improve your plant's energy efficiency.
Areas for discussion in the free conference programme will include Electricity Market Reform, carbon legislation and how to improve your factory's bottom line through better energy efficiency.
The Energy Information Theatre, meanwhile, will offer a lineup of case studies from energy managers, who will share their experiences and insights into best commercial energy management practice.
The Energy Leaders Theatre will explore the key energy issues and debates facing boardrooms and energy procurement professionals including pending forecasting and compliance legislation. It will also tackle the renewables roadmap, implications of Mandatory Carbon Reporting and opportunities presented in the Electricity Market Reform.
Sarah Porter, division director for the Energy Event, said: "With energy efficiency, legislation and, even new mining approaches such as fracking, being high on the nation's conscience, the Energy Event is the definitive destination for anyone in the UK with an energy remit. Our conference programme is more comprehensive than ever before, with some of the world's leading brands and minds sharing their thinking and experiences."
Three environmental shows are co-located with The Energy Event - the Renewables Event, the Water Event and RWM in association with CIWM.
"This co-location offers visitors the opportunity to build their knowledge, source products and services, and network across the sectors of resource and waste management, energy management and efficiency, renewable energy and water efficiency, management and procurement," according to the organiser.
Exhibitors at the Energy Event will range from major energy suppliers to brokers, consultants and product manufacturers. Sections include heating, ventilation and air conditioning; lighting; compressed air, energy purchasing; energy suppliers; accreditation services; building energy management systems and combined heat and power.

Thermal Energy International claims that steam users can increase profit margins, meet emission regulations and increase production while reducing reliance on carbon-based fuels by using its GEM Trap. The company says the technology will offer a 10% to 30% permanent reduction in steam costs, and a typical payback of one to two years.
