More than one third (35%) of UK manufacturing workers have had their pay cut since the recession began, the highest in any sector across the UK. A similar number have seen their working hours reduced and more than one quarter have lost benefits.
The figures were published today (1 June) following a survey by the Keep Britain Working campaign initiated earlier this year by James Reed, CEO of recruitment giant Reed.
The survey results follow a decision by Honda workers made last week to accept pay cuts of 3% to avoid redundancies.
Across the wider economy over the last nine months 27% of UK workers have had their pay cut, 24% have had their hours reduced and 24% have lost benefits, says the survey.
