Jaguar Land Rover and Tata have succeeded in securing a £92 million joint industry, university and government boost, according to the Society for Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).
The government's UK Research Partnership Investment Fund (UK RPIF), launched in the Budget, was heavily oversubscribed, receiving an overwhelming number of bids, "resulting in this latest wave of investment", says SMMT.
The fund will contribute to a £92 million partnership between Warwick University, JLR and Tata Motors European Technical Centre (TMETC) for a new National Automotive Innovation Campus.
The campus will develop new technologies to reduce dependency on fossil fuels and address a shortage of skilled R&D staff in the automotive supply chain. JLR and TMETC, working with Warwick Manufacturing Group (WMG) at the University, envisage a tenfold return on investment through improved products, processes and services.
