The AFRC is part of the High Value Manufacturing Catapult, and aims to de-risk and accelerate the introduction of new technologies, materials and processes. It is supported by the University of Strathclyde, with eight laboratories and over 130 employees.
As a world-leading supplier of cutting tools, Mitsubishi will use the AFRC as a test facility for the development of new products and manufacturing processes, as well as providing Mitsubishi with greater access to the UK market and allow the company to trial its tools in the country.
In return, the AFRC will benefit from Mitsubishi’s training and equipment, which will help the centre’s engineering teams develop new machining strategies and work to best practice.
Lynne O’Hare, commercial team lead at the AFRC, said: “Throughout this new partnership, we’ll be working with Mitsubishi to develop new, innovative machining solutions – products that can be used to solve real industry problems. Training from the company’s experts will also be invaluable in helping our machining team to create fresh machining strategies and reinvent best practice.”
