Airbus says it is likely to start using its PTC Windchill PLM (product lifecycle management) software for new aircraft programmes as part of what is clearly a strengthening partnership between the two organisations.
Airbus’ product development strategy is to increasingly utilise out-of-the-box packaged solutions, not least because that makes it easier to integrate and deliver capabilities as the need arises, and to maintain new software versions.
The Windchill implementation programme is being managed by PTC to ensure processes alignment and to optimise operating performance for maintenance and support.
“Companies are changing the way they develop products, but they must invest in new technologies to support this change,” says Richard Harrison, president and CEO.
“In a typical aerospace development program for example, the OEM brings together millions of components made by thousands of suppliers around the world, with varying configurations depending on its airline customers. PTC Windchill has proven to be a successful and reliable solution for managing these highly engineered and enormously complex products.”
