Airline industry gets new planning and scheduling system

The aviation industry has a new advanced planning and scheduling system with a slightly different take on the role of production APSs – from Netherlands-based Quintiq.

The company says its Aviation Planning & Optimisation Solution is aimed at tactical planning, operational scheduling and real-time event management, covering aircraft, crew, gates and ground staff. Each aspect has its own planning module that can stand alone or be integrated with others, offering irline operators and airports the ability to manage multiple networks and resources across different planning horizons. The launch comes in the wake of what Quintiq describes as a global aviation industry buffeted by rising fuel prices, changing employment regulations and rapid shifts in consumer preferences as well as threats of terrorism. “The new Quintiq solution combines our expertise in planning and scheduling with a thorough understanding of aviation needs developed through our work with the industry over the past several years,” says Martijn van Gils, marketing director at Quintiq.
