Autodesk has completed its acquisition of privately held German real time visualisation software specialist PI-VR, best known in the automotive industry, for an undisclosed sum.
Buzz Kross, senior vice president of the Design, Lifecycle and Simulation business unit at Autodesk, sees PI-VR's technology as strengthening Autodesk's expertise and offerings for automotive visualisation.
"This acquisition brings to Autodesk a highly-skilled team with deep expertise in high-end visualisation that will help expand our offerings for the automotive industry," states Kross.
"The VRED technology helps solve a broad set of problems in the process of car design and engineering, and reduces the need for physical prototypes, through the use of real time, highly realistic visualisation," he add.
Autodesk, he says, now intends to integrate Autodesk technologies into the PI-VR platform, while continuing to sell and enhance the product line.
