BAE Systems is locked in talks with employees over an operational review that could lead to 3,000 UK job losses. The defence manufacturer said staff will be briefed on the findings of the review today.
BAE refused to confirm or deny media reports that the review will lead to heavy cutbacks.
A company spokesperson said: "BAE Systems has informed staff that we are reviewing our operations across various businesses to make sure the company is performing as effectively and efficiently as possible."
The spokesperson added: "While there has been a lot of media speculation, it has always been our intention to communicate the results of the review to employees as a priority...on Tuesday 27th September"
The statement follows media reports that BAE is about to shed between 2,000 and 3,000 UK jobs because of slower sales of its Eurofighter jet.
The cuts could centre on BAE's military aircraft division in Warton, Lancashire according to The Guardian newspaper.
Britain's largest union Unite has targeted emergency talks with BAE following the reports.
