In the first, on 8 January 2013, Mohammed Janhgir Khan, 45, was operating a winding machine at Palagan, on Tavistock Street, when his left arm was drawn into an in-running nip. He sustained severe bone and ligament damage and was unable to return to work for months.
The second incident occurred nine months later on 12 September as another employee, Maqbool Hussain, 37, was using a printing press with safety guards removed. His fingers were drawn into the in-running nip of the press' rollers. He suffered ligament damage and was unable to return to work for several months.
Luton Crown Court heard that the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) found that effective measures were not taken to prevent access the dangerous parts of both machines.
Palagan, of Tavistock Street, Dunstable, was prosecuted for single breaches of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 and the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998.
