The link will help provide new research projects, boost student employability and create jobs in the region. HSSMI, which looks to work with manufacturers, academia and solution providers to assist the manufacturing sector, will collaborate with the university to promote the success and impact of manufacturing in the West Midlands.
This is not the first collaboration between the two organisations: HSSMI also support the university’s Magnesium Innovation Group, which explores the use of magnesium in low-volume automotive companies.
“I am very excited about our partnership with HSSMI, which builds upon our close relationships with industry and allows us to engage more strategically,” said Professor Gareth Neighbour, head of the School of Engineering and the Built Environment at Birmingham City University. “It also brings added value to our students to create additional academic capital in their work with employers, be it through apprenticeships, placements or projects.”
“We see significant added value through the new partnership with Birmingham City University,” added Dr Leslie Lee, executive director at HSSMI. “This is an exciting new alliance and we look forward to working closely together to innovate and deploy new advanced manufacturing techniques in support of developing UK government industrial strategy.”
