BlackBerry devices get new anti-theft security software

The brothers who invented the tool that connects Macs and BlackBerry devices have now launched the first tool to identify mobile thieves and their locations.

BlackBerry ER, says Terence Goggin, CTO and founder, will get stolen BlackBerries back to their rightful owners faster than ever before. "With this product, we open up a whole new world to BlackBerry users. It makes owning a BlackBerry that much more of a safeguarded investment. What's more, it will work for both Mac- and PC-based BlackBerry owners, so it's truly cross-platform," says Goggin. Besides offering GPS coordinates of the thief's current location, BlackBerry ER also texts users with the details of a thief's identity, including phone number and IMSI number, he explains. "The scary truth is that mobile phones get lost, stolen or damaged every day at an alarming rate," comments Tim Goggin, vice president of sales and marketing continued. "In 2008, it was reported that an aide to Mexican president Calederón stole six BlackBerry devices from president Bush's aides. And this was in a secure area. If the White House isn't secure for BlackBerry owners, what is?"
