Booth Welsh Automation takes on ABB plant engineers
Control engineering firm Booth Welsh Automation (BWA) has thrown a lifeline to a team of engineers facing redundancy at ABB's closed Scottish Engineering Services Office in East Kilbride.
John Welsh, chairman and founder of BWA, says that nine of the workers accepted BWA's offer and are now working at its headquarters in Stevenston, Ayrshire.
"It made perfect sense for us to acquire the entire team. Not only do the skills of the individuals complement our existing staff base; they allow us to accelerate our plans to expand into process engineering and consultancy services," explains Welsh.
"As well as safeguarding these jobs, we have been able to create a new division almost overnight, offering an exciting new service to existing clients, whilst creating career development opportunities for the staff," he adds.
BWA is an independent, privately owned £15m company offering high technology engineered solutions in process control plant engineering.
