The apprentices are now working on the company's site.

Among them is new mechanical technician Jack Cook who is based at Skinningrove.

Crook said: “I worked with some really experienced people over the past three years and I have learned so much from them.

“I was able to watch them do their job, and then put that into practice with their guidance and I am now comfortable completing these processes alone.”

Kai Harrison, a new fabrication technician at Teesside, said: “Several people in my family are welders, so I wanted to follow them into the discipline and the apprenticeship at British Steel was the perfect opportunity to do that.”

When asked to pick a highlight of the apprenticeship programme, Alfie Conlin, mechanical technician at Teesside, said: “It’s hard to pick one highlight, but I’d have to go with successfully completing my end-point assessment. Knowing that three years of hard work paid off and I was rewarded with a full-time job meant a lot to me.”

While discussing his hopes for the future, Nathan Faint, mechanical technician at Teesside, said: “I hope to continue building on what I’ve learned and in the near future, I would like to complete a Higher National Certificate (HNC), allowing me to progress further as a British Steel employee.”

Mark Wigham, Plant Engineer – Teesside, said: “It’s fantastic to see the apprentices now taking on their full-time roles with the company after three years of dedicated hard work.

“Colleagues of all levels have progressed through our apprenticeship programme, and we hope the latest cohort can go on to achieve incredible things with us.”

23 Scunthorpe apprentices also received permanent roles after completing their training.
