Fab Lab – the Manchester facility that provides the space, equipment and expertise for local inventors and creatives to turn their ideas into reality – has declared open house in the run up to Christmas to encourage the public to make their own seasonal gifts.
The free facility, "where anyone with an idea can make almost anything they want (and then take it away!)" is packed with computer controlled fabrication equipment such as 3D printers, laser cutters, milling machines, sewing and embroidery machines and a variety of electronic components and materials participants might need to make their products.
The technical skills to use the machines are provided by Fab Lab's qualified engineers and techies who can also help visitors learn to use the machines.
Fab Lab, which is located in the landmark Chips Building in downtown Manchester's New Islington area at 2 Lampwick Lane, M4 6BU (for navigation use M4 6EE), is welcoming anyone from the city in to try it for themselves during late November and into December in the run-up to Christmas, as well as to see the range of equipment available to inventors and creatives.
