The contracts to export AquaOmnicide, an aquatic health disinfectant for use on fish and shrimp farms, will boost Mirius’s revenue by £340,000 per annum. The new deal will support the business’s ongoing export growth, which increased by 26% in the last year.
Mirius, founded in 1963 as Coventry Chemicals, is a leader in the manufacture and supply of cleaning liquids, powders and tablets to suit all professional, retail and healthcare cleaning and hygiene requirements.
Mirius secured the deals with support from the Department for International Trade (DIT), which provided a grant to enable the company to obtain its accreditation for exporting to Taiwan and Brazil.
Located in Willenhall, the business currently exports to countries across Europe, South East Asia, the Middle East, Africa and Latin America.
Mike Button, Healthcare general manager, said: “Exports significantly contribute to our turnover annually, and exporting has become an integral and essential part of our business.
“The demand is definitely out there but exporting for the first time can be daunting. We found there are often exacting regulations that differ from country to country. This means dealing with legal requirements, particularly for more niche products, like ours, can be complicated.
“The Department for International Trade and our International Trade Adviser have been a great help to us in navigating complicated paperwork and understanding what we need to do to get overseas. My advice for other businesses looking to export is to look past potential obstacles and consider the wealth of opportunity out there.”
Ian Harrison, head of exports for the Midlands, DIT, said: “Exporting is a brilliant way for businesses to capitalise on the popularity of British products abroad. Goods and services produced by British companies have a well-earned reputation for quality and integrity, and UK business can tap into a rich market of global opportunity.
“Our job is to connect British businesses with the right contacts and know-how in order to reach their full potential. Mirius is a brilliant example of a business that has been able to strengthen its success by trading overseas and expand the range of its trading partners.”
“We have a team of specialist International Trade Advisers on the ground in the West Midlands, who are on hand to support firms as they look to start or build their exports.”
