City & Guilds, the training certification body specialising in engineering and manufacturing, has chosen Atos Origin to provide IT services worth £13.5 million to underpin its international expansion plans.
Simon Morioka, group director of IT at City & Guilds, explains that Atos Origin will take over management and hosting of all IT applications – including implementing a new IT architecture to support all SAP systems, as well as migrating legacy applications to a virtual environment.
“The work we will be doing is integral to strategic plans for growth and our ambitions to become even more responsive to our customers, here and internationally,” he says. “We believe that Atos Origin … is the right company to help us ensure that we have the technology we need to achieve this transformation.”
He adds that virtualisation of the legacy systems is expected to reduce the number of servers from five to one, cutting power consumption and carbon emissions.
