Digital content management doubles in two years

29% of UK firms are now deploying enterprise-wide document management capabilities, according to AIIM Europe, the enterprise content management (ECM) association – nearly twice as many as indicated in its 2005 survey.

The association also reveals that a further 19% have begun integrating document and records management projects across departments, up from 13% last time. AIIM’s international survey shows that UK adoption rates are now remarkably similar to those in the US. It also finds a strong correlation between a company’s ability to handle electronic information well and the perception of that company’s business success. It says that the 16% of respondents who rate their organisation very good or excellent in managing, controlling and using electronic information are twice as likely to consider their organisation more effective than the industry average in profitability. AIIM finds that 46% of organisations plan to spend more or much more on document and records management technologies in 2007 compared to the last survey – with only 13% planning to spend less. Additionally, when asked to identify the most challenging aspect of document and records management, 28% cited justifying the investment and gaining board commitment, whilst 27% considered change management the tougher aspect. AIIM says it intends to address these issues at the AIIM Roadshow, which visits five UK cities from April 30 to May 4. With this year’s educational theme ‘Tame Your Information Beast’, industry experts will deliver information and advice throughout the week. Some 35 suppliers will also demonstrate content, email and records management software along with document scanning and forms recognition systems.
