DS Smith set to improve half year performance

The packaging giant DS Smith said today (27 October) that its business year was progressing well with its upcoming half-year results expected to show a strong improvement on the comparable period for last year. The company said it was looking forward with confidence to the remainder of the year. It would continue to focus on FMCG, and greater presence in Europe, "with service, quality and innovation at the centre of our product offering".

Smith said that encouraging overall trading reported for the first quarter had continued into the second, with volumes continuing to be good. The paper and corrugated packaging businesses had maintained robust volume growth. Although there had been increases in input costs, the phased recovery of those costs had continued fully in line with the company's plans, backed up by the service, innovation and product quality. Plastics had also continued to develop positively, with good volume growth and cost control.
