Vitamins, carotenoids and fine chemicals manufacturer DSM Nutritional Products reckons it’s cutting costs and improving efficiency in its purchasing as a result of classifying its materials and spending and improving data quality.
The company has implemented DataFlux technology to validate and code its spending and materials data, leading to a high quality ecl@ss classification. That is now optimising purchasing and in turn enabling the company to get more from its SAP R/3 systems.
DataFlux’s Data Quality Integration Platform is being used to validate the codes and to standardise spend and materials descriptions. Users can set the coding rules themselves, and have been able to generate a reliable master data source.
“We have experienced a remarkable improvement in the accuracy on spend classification,” says David Barron, master data manager at DSM.
“This investment is aimed at supporting our global initiative to reduce purchasing costs by ensuring the quality of spend classifications at an operational level by profiling, verifying, customising and monitoring our data.
“By implementing the DataFlux solution we believe we are leveraging the maximum value from our SAP investment and harmonising the data held on our material spend. We are now finding a range of other uses for the DataFlux technology beyond our original expectation that simply reinforce the already considerable ROI.”
