Manufacturers' organisation EEF has formed a partnership with the Design Council to provide practical, hands-on design-led support for manufacturing companies that will expose them to design's power to leverage more effective, efficient and profitable businesses.
Dr Steve Chicken, EEF manufacturing growth director, said: "This programme is a step forward in the type of design-related advice that we can provide to companies, especially at the small and medium-size end. By bringing the Design Council's expertise together with our in-depth knowledge of manufacturing, we will be able to translate this into real-world solutions in language that will resonate with manufacturers."
The programme places the Design Council's design management specialists within manufacturing companies, giving them practical support with integrating 'design thinking' as a fundamental part of their business planning for tangible bottom-line results.
Helen Lazarus, head of design leadership programme at the Design Council, explained: "Understanding how to deploy design strategically and effectively can seem complex to some industries, yet those businesses that do, really reap the benefits.
"Design shouldn't be a secret weapon exploited by the few – we want to support as many businesses as possible understand how the UK's world-leading design services can work for them. This partnership is an opportunity to do just that."
