Engineer earnings ‘keeping pace with other professions’
Chartered engineers earn an average of £63,000 a year, according to the latest survey from the Engineering Council.
It also revealed that average earnings in the year to April 2013 were £40,000 for engineering technicians, £45,500 for incorporated engineers and £36,306 for ICT technicians.
It found that the higher earnings were generated by a rise in basic income rather than in overtime, bonus and commission payments, which showed a decrease since 2010.
Nonetheless, it added: "Those holding the titles engineering technician (EngTech), incorporated engineer (IEng) and chartered engineer (CEng) are still enjoying pay increases and low levels of unemployment."
Engineering Council ceo Jon Prichard said: "With a handful of registrants reporting earnings of more than £1m and around 10% of registrants earning over £100,000 the signs are that the engineering profession is keeping pace with other professions."
