Essar Steel transforms its supply chain using i2 planning

Essar Steel, one of the largest global steel producers, says it has implemented i2 planning solutions at its Indian plant, to increase profitability, enhance customer satisfaction and improve operational efficiency.
"Essar's partnership with i2 has led to significant enhancement of [our] overall supply chain management maturity," comments Kalyan Ghosh, senior vice president of supply chain management at Essar Steel.
"Essar Steel is known for adopting best-in-class technologies and IT solutions for better operational efficiency. The IT solution provided by i2 meets our business objectives that provide ability to anticipate and respond proactively to business changes. This has in turn enhanced the capability of supply chain management to meet business objectives."
Ghosh indicates that key improvements include: better profitability through a profit-optimised sales mix, synchronised order booking and planning and execution; improved asset utilisation through extended demand visibility and capacity projection; and better load balancing through advanced order planning.
Additionally, forecast accuracy has been increased by nearly 30% for domestic contract customers, while the response time to customer inquiries hasbeen reduced from two hours to six seconds.
