SMEs primarily involved in fabrication and assembly have another IT and business consulting resource aimed at their specific manufacturing, supply chain and business management needs.
IBM has launched an initiative dubbed the Industry Solutions Portfolio comprising a network of consultants and software developers, like Sage and JD Edwards, to offer extended ERP and web-based collaboration systems to drive efficiencies, cut costs tailored to their operations.
Partially it’s about lean thinking, but the partners say they’re constructing a list of solutions and vendors specific to the industries, and will provide “articles and discussion pieces from IBM, its partners and industry gurus”.
Beyond this, there will be online ‘ask-the-expert’ sessions, industry- surveys and networking opportunities.
Says Bill Hill, marketing director for Sage Enterprise Solutions: “When we integrate the Sage knowledge in fabrication and assembly with IBM, we can demonstrate a best of breed solution that [delivers better] supply chain management and lean manufacturing.”
Jo McLear, Fabrication and Assembly marketing manager commented: “Together we have years of experience in enabling companies to become more efficient both internally and with their supply chain. I believe companies are looking for improved and leaner processes, more effective communication and more efficient collaboration between individual business departments that lead to lower costs, greater customer satisfaction, and therefore increased competitiveness.”
