Factory gate prices continue to soar with price rises up 5.3% this April according to Office for National Statistics (ONS) data
Manufacturers felt the force of ongoing pressure on the cost of raw materials, the figures revealed.
Input price annual inflation rose 17.6% in April, compared with a rise of 14.8% in the year to March.
The increase was driven by a hike in crude oil costs according to ONS analysis.
Month on month the output price measure for all manufactured products rose 0.8% between March and April, reflecting widespread increases across most product groups, in particular tobacco and alcohol.
Changes in excise duty are estimated to have added 0.3% to the overall output price index in April, ONS data said.
