Finalists lining up for the 2009 Best Factory Awards, the celebrated programme run by Cranfield School of Management in partnership with Works Management, will this year be sharing the secrets of their success at a special 'How to be the Best' session on the morning of the London awards ceremony next month.
The overall winner and the individual category winners will be revealed at a gala ceremony at the Royal Lancaster Hotel, London, on 18 September.
Among the contenders for the prestigious Factory of the Year prize are plants producing goods as diverse as drinks cans, teabags and lights.
As well as the overall winner, other prizes include the four main sector awards – for Best Process Plant, Best Electrical & Electronics Plant, Best Household & General Products Plant, and Best Engineering Plant – as well as categories including Best Small Company, Energy & Environment Award, Skills Development Award and more.
The 13 shortlisted plants (in alphabetical order) are: Barfoots of Botley, Bognor Regis; Brose, Coventry; Carl Zeiss SMT, Cambridge; Catalent Pharma Solutions, Corby; Federal Mogul, Chapel-en-le-Frith; Gripple, Sheffield; JohnsonDiversey, Alfreton; Kidde Products, Seaham; Olympus KeyMed, Southend; Plexus Corp (UK), Kelso; Rexam, Milton Keynes, Thorn Lighting, Spennymoor; and Twinings, Andover.
The BFA 2009 lunchtime event on 18 September is open to all – it's an unmissable opportunity to network with the best in the UK manufacturing sector. What's more, this year sees the introduction of a new VIP 'How to be the Best' session during the morning, when delegates aspiring to world class production standards can meet the judges and hear from some of the shortlisted manufacturers.
