Fixed/mobile computer aimed at logistics users

The device, launched by the company’s Enterprise Mobility business unit, provides wireless connectivity, voice and data, and extends real-time communications support, particularly for transportation and logistics customers. Dubbed VC6096, it collects data such as mileage, location, driver performance and vehicle metrics. It also has integrated GPS, so provides what Motorola describes as “the asset visibility needed to support real-time location-based applications from directions for drivers to fleet location for dispatchers”. Brian Viscount, vice president of mobile computing with Motorola Enterprise Mobility, says that by providing mobile workers with simultaneous voice and data connections via 3.5G WAN connectivity on the GSM network, companies can increase productivity and improve customer service through, for example, route optimisation. “The VC6096 improves the efficiency of mobile workers on the road with real-time connectivity and instant communication – when and where they need it,” he insists. “By enabling organisations to more quickly, easily and accurately capture relevant driver and vehicle data, enterprises will reduce paperwork and increase efficiency by automating the driver logs, time cards, and highway fuel tax reports.”
