Dassault Systèmes last month introduced a way to get the PLM (product lifecycle management) functionality you need at a fraction of the price of tailor-made solutions.
The engineering software giant, which sells PLM in the UK through IBM Global Services, says it expects the approach to make its systems suitable for companies of all sizes, including SMEs.
Dubbed Business Process Content (BPC), the new systems are based on industry-specific PLM practices, including methodologies and documentation. Dassault says they’re easily implemented, and will allow users to get a much faster return on investment.
The firm makes the point that while preconfigured solutions have hitherto been the result of considerable investment, with re-ruse difficult because of the depth of customisation and interdependencies, this new approach is different.
Using its years of experience in industry and cross-industry solutions, Dassault has identified what’s used widely, when and where. Hene the BPCs, which allow more users to benefit much more cheaply.
First BPCs available are 10 V5R15 certified components built on Dassault’s Smarteam and Catia PLM systems – like the Collaborative Systems Engineering (CSE) solution, a cross-industry system that optimises early stages of product development. CSE consists of several BPCs based on Smarteam, such as Requirement Management, Collaborative System Lifecycle Management and Traceability and others.
