Google Mini 2.2, a development of Google Enterprise’s OneBox global search system, launched today, is being hailed as the company’s biggest ever product update.
Aimed at SMEs, it means that smaller manufacturing need no longer be poor relations to larger corporations in terms of ‘enterprise strength’ secure multi-application information search capabilities.
The launch follows IBM and Yahoo’s introduction just a couple of weeks ago of similar free business system search software.
With Google’s new baby, users can find any information in any format in one place – giving the potential for significant efficiencies and streamlined operations. And Google makes the point that “already stretched resource wont be burdened further.”
It’s a considerable development from last April’s introduction of the Google Search Appliance for large organisations, with OneBox functionality. Essentially, OneBox functionality, which enables business users to search across different applications in one environment, is now available in the low cost Mini format.
Mini users will be able to search across anything from simple phone book listings to CRM (customer relationship management) systems, ERP and business intelligence.
