Government IT sets green example, says Citrix

Its research found that virtualisation, flexible working and providing services for staff and citizens are also high on government organisations’ IT agendas. Although 20% of respondents said that they did not have a green IT policy, Steve Ash, government sales manager at Citrix UK, says he’s encouraged by the results. “Just a couple of years ago, green IT barely made the agenda at all. As such, it’s very good to see that more than two thirds of public sector organisations already have a policy in place. This is positive news for our energy consumption, and for the environment more generally.” Other top findings: maintaining security remains top of the IT agenda, according to 59% of respondents; and virtualisation comes in second with 51%. Languishing near the bottom of the table are: updating applications and moving to Microsoft Vista at 13%; worrying about compliance, 10%; implementing shared services, also 10%; and becoming carbon neutral, 5%.
