A spokesman for the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) told Works Management it would continue to support people who have existing contracts with the service until the end of March 2016.
He added: “We have provided funding for local growth hubs around the country. We are expecting them to step in and provide support for potential high growth firms so that they should be the places that businesses go to get support tailored to them for their local area. The BGS also linked businesses to services such as UK trade and investment – advice for exporting and things like that. That will continue at the national level.”
The move, part of the Spending Review settlement, is understood to have saved £84 million. BIS said it was investing £12m a year into 39 local growth hubs led by Local Enterprise Partnerships to replace the BGS.
