Government undertakes to consider auto boss’s views

Following a meeting with representatives of the automotive industry yesterday (27 November) the government has undertaken to to study the details of the issues that were identified.

Business Secretary Peter Mandelson (pictured) and Economics and Business Minister Ian Pearson had met with representatives from The Society of Motor Traders and Manufacturers, Toyota, General Motors, Nissan, Lotus, Rolls Royce, Bentley, Ford, Ricardo, GKN, Jaguar Land Rover, Leyland Trucks, Aston Martin, Retail Motor Industry Federation and JCB. The government said it was continuing to address the issue of access to finance to boost the economy and encourage consumer confidence. It confirmed that it would also call strongly for aEuropean Investment Bank funding scheme and for that scheme to have a swift application and decision process.
