NYK Logistics (UK) has picked up an award for its environmental efforts, which include a project to assess the viability of algae-fuelled vehicles. The company won the environmental best practice & sustainable development category at the annual Green Apple awards, held recently in London.
As well as the algae fuel project, on which it is working with a local university, NYK has hosted training workshops on energy efficiency and has implemented a driver incentive scheme to reduce fuel consumption.
Ian Veitch, NYK's UK chief executive, commented: "We are absolutely delighted to win this award. From raising staff awareness to developing new fuel sources, our environmental initiatives are enormously varied and require large reserves of ingenuity and hard work. Being recognised with an accolade such as this is both satisfying and encouraging as we continue to improve our performance."
