Switchgear and power management system manufacturer Mardix is using a custom-built handling solution to manoeuvre its large switchgear cabinets during installation.
Mardix's installation team often has to handle switchgear cabinets weighing up to 2 tonnes, in areas with restricted height clearance. The equipment has to be tilted for positioning – which used to be performed manually by up to six people.
Mardix approached several suppliers for a mechanical alternative and Stanley Handling took on the project and came up with the Robur SBP/3030, a pedestrian-operated, battery-powered straddle truck which has a special clamping and tilting system.
With a lifting capacity of 3 tonnes and up to 3m in height, the new truck has solved the problem for Mardix, reducing time and manpower and exceeding health and safety requirements.
