The launch of the first ever Higher Apprenticeship in Space Engineering has been announced by Loughborough College and the National Space Academy.
The programme, which will form a pathway within Semta's Higher Apprenticeship in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering this summer, will include the Level 4 Extended Diploma in Research and Development and a foundation degree in Space Engineering, a sector due to triple in size and be worth £30billion over the next 20 years.
Semta's chief executive Sarah Sillars said the apprenticeship would provide a vital tool to develop the space engineers and technicians of tomorrow, capturing the imagination of young people who don't understand the excitement and reward offered by careers in modern engineering.
Developed by Loughborough College in association with the National Space Academy, the apprenticeship will meet the demands of an industry which already employs around 30,000 and contributes over £9billion to the nation's economy, with work based, top quality degree-level training. It follows the success of the Loughborough College and National Space Academy 16+ Space Engineering course.
