Honeywell is working with SAP to include real-time data generated from industrial plants in business decision making at the enterprise level.
According to Norm Gilsdorf, president of Honeywell Process Solutions, the pair plan to offer integrated solutions, initially focused on the oil and gas market, that combine Honeywell Process Solutions' production planning and scheduling system with SAP's ERP, supply chain logistics and business analytics.
This combination, he says, will deliver new business tools for manufacturing organisations enabling proactive and, where necessary, preventive measures, not only to avoid production downtime, but also to keep people, the environment and assets safe.
"Our solutions and domain expertise bridge the gap because they enable information and insight from a plant to be combined with information from the enterprise, resulting in clear communication and quick and correct decision making – the dream of every good business leader," comments Gilsdorf.
And he adds: "Collaboration between the manufacturing and commercial sides of oil and gas organisations can be a challenge." Which is the point: the Honeywell and SAP collaboration aims to address the knowledge gap between business and operations groups in both upstream and downstream oil and gas organisations.
Kerstin Geiger, co-head of industries solution management at SAP, explains that, through the use of SAP BusinessObjects analytic applications, data from the disparate sources can be combined and analysed, to enable a new level of visibility.
"Our integrated portfolio will help oil and gas operations run better by enabling the closed-loop management of operations performance," says Geiger.
"Our cooperation will help drive innovations to market that will exploit SAP's analytics, in-memory and mobility technologies, and ultimately transform oil and gas operations," he adds.
